Many people believe that a composite deck is indestructible and requires zero protection during a barbecue. That assumption is a fast track to permanent heat scarring or deep grease stains that never quite wash away.
Choosing the Best Grill Mats for Composite Deck is about adding a durable layer of defense. Keep reading to see which mats actually hold their ground against high temperatures and splattering oils.
Key Takeaways
- Prioritize mats with high heat resistance ratings to ensure they can withstand direct charcoal or gas embers.
- Check the dimensions carefully to confirm the mat extends at least a few inches beyond all sides of your grill.
- Select materials that are waterproof or oil-proof because grease can penetrate porous fabrics and ruin your decking finish.
- Look for non-slip backings to keep the mat from sliding around during high winds or heavy foot traffic.
- Choose a weight that is heavy enough to lay flat but light enough to move when you need to clean the deck.

Cuisinart Non-Slip Rubber Grill Mat
If you want a mat that stays put, this is your best bet. The non-slip rubber base clings firmly to composite surfaces, which is exactly what you need to prevent the mat from migrating when you move your grill.
It offers a generous 65 by 36 inch coverage area. This footprint is wide enough to catch stray embers or grease spatters from most standard-sized backyard grills. Just keep in mind that the rubber material is heavy, so it is not exactly meant to be moved around the yard on a whim.
- Brand:Cuisinart
- Dimensions:65 x 36 inches
- Material:Rubber
- Feature:Non-slip base
- Additional Feature:Heavy duty rubber build

Rumlick Rectangular Outdoor Grill Mat
This mat is a solid choice for someone who needs a balance of protection and manageability. Its 48 by 30 inch dimensions fit nicely under smaller setups or balcony grills without taking over your entire deck.

It is built to handle more than just grease, as it functions effectively as a fireproof pad for various heat sources. Because it is so large, you will want to make sure your deck space is measured out before you purchase it.
